Matt practices in the firm's Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Section and handles matters primarily focused on upstream exploration and production.   Prior to practicing law, Matt worked as a petroleum landman performing mineral title research and lease acquisition in the gulf coast region of Texas.

Areas of Practice:

Oil and Gas Title Examination

Matt prepares Drilling Title Opinions, Acquisition Opinions and Division Order Title Opinions on lands throughout Texas.  Title may be based on abstract examination or done by "stand up" examination in the county clerk's office. 

Oil and Gas Transactional Work

Matt has represented publically traded and privately funded companies on a wide range of oil and gas transactional matters, included but not limited to: leasing issues, due diligence matters, regulatory matters, royalty and revenue payment issues, preparation of conveyance and curative instruments, non-participating royalty and overriding royalty interests disputes, surface use matters, operating and drilling agreements, pooling and unitization issues and various day to day operational matters.

Matt also has significant experience in Mineral and Royalty Receivership proceedings.
